Permagloss over water slide decals

Hi All,

I want to put a water slide decal over the butt section of a white rod I am currently building. I am going to print the decal on white Testors water slide decal paper. I want to use Permagloss because I want it to stay clear and yellow like epoxy. I will treat the decal with a sealant before I apply it.

Will there be an issue with the PG lifting the decal?
Do I need to coat it with CP first?
Do I lightly sand the blank before applying the decal?

Is there a tutorial on applying decals anywhere? Any advice would be greatly appreciated since once I move forward there is no turning back!

Thank You,

Chris Tulk

You just have to be careful with the PG as it's a bit "hot." With the proper protection over the decal, however, you should be okay. Of course, it always pays to test first.

First clean the blank with a bit of DNA and then tape over sticker with clear scotch tape to protect it from the effects of the Permagloss. Once the tape is on you may want to wrap over the sticker with thread just to make sure that all the bubbles are out from under the tape. Remove the thread after about 5 minutes and then you can use Permagloss over it without any problems. Don't even worry about seeing the tape on top of the sticker because once dry it will be as clear as water with no tape or lines showing up at all.

Thank you, as I've mentioned on here before I'm redoing a bunch of 50's 60's rods back to factory correct. I've never used a product like permagloss before. I'm sure you just saved me a bunch of heart ache. Only been on this site for a few months and such a helpful group with no @#$%&. Thanks guys. Been doing this for 30+ years but I've learned a ton just reading old posts. Awesome!
