Hello, Hoping for some suggestions/guidance from more experienced builders. Considering building a daytime swordfish deep drop rod for the NE canyons. Read what I could find about blanks but there are not many specific recommendations. A few refer to Blackfin rod blanks - generally 6 foot, 80 pound class, fast taper for detecting bite at 1500 feet.. It would be a bent butt rod, (#4), winthrop top and heavy duty SIC guides. using Hooker electrict reel. Any suggestions/experience would be very much appreciated. Thanks Re: daytime swordfish rod - deep drop

I would start by calling blank manufacturers. Seeker, black hole, American tackle, calstar are worth a try. Good luck. Re: daytime swordfish rod - deep drop

Thanks - called around and for those that might be interested, heard the following: Am Tackle ATX AXST56XXH, and AXST56XH; Calstar RT80, BT655XXH, Blackhole Giant Blank 6'' XH (that one out of my price range) all were suggested. Re: daytime swordfish rod - deep drop

Tony,
I like and use the RT80 in a 6'6" length the additional length give it a softer tip and helps with pulled hooks. Great blank. Catchem up! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/11/2016 04:51PM by Bruno Giuliari. Re: daytime swordfish rod - deep drop

I'm glad it worked out. Good luck with the build. Tight lines. MH Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
