Steve - Sheridan is absolutely correct. It seems that everyone has a different style for wrapping, Experimentation is the name of the game, try different ways and find one that fits you. Different strokes for different folks. Experimentation is also the best way to learn things, you always learn from mistakes. So making mistakes are not always a bad thing if you learn from them. I am sure your son will love the rod, and that will give you a great deal of satisfaction. Enjoy your fishing trips together.

My followup to the tacky epoxy, I removed everything and started over, rewrapped (still having the problem of getting the thread locked) mixed 5cc total of flexcoat stirring with my modified popsicle stick for about 2 1/2 minutes. Prior to the mixing I had set the 2 bottles in a sunny window for about 5 minutes, made them fairly runny but anyway applied the new mixture to the new thread wrap 24 hrs later hard as a rock smooth as glass, and I just loaded the reel with 4# line my sons rod is ready to go ---A BIG THANK YOU to everyone and to this site for giving me the direction and confidence.
