I think that this method works very well.

It is exactly the same method that I use to put trim bands on the ends of wrap. I feel much better to have a dozen wraps on each end of a trim wrap to hold it secure.
Using this method, I have never had a trim band come loose from a wrap.

17 minutes for a guide sounds a bit too much for me. But yes, it works well

Its old school. Dale Clemons showed that method years ago. It keeps everything nice and straight. The problem is as said it takes twice as long as Tom's method of "treating two threads as one"

I don't use all of the layers of masking tape that is shown in the video, but I do like to use the trim pulls from the edges of the wrap so that the trim can have 8-10 wraps of main wrap to hold the trim and or inlays in place.

Of course when up to speed, a wrap takes no where as long as the time shown in the video.

Whoever made that video doesn't know what the @#$%& they are doing and making it far too difficult.

I use a compass with pointers at both ends to measure not a ruler i always start at the end and do any wrap up to and over the foot

Care to share via video how you do it?

Thank you all for your opinions, I would like to make it clear that I own the video and did it very slowly to show a friend who wants to learn. Normally it takes 5 to 7 minutes on each side. Sorry if you do not like it, but it's the technique I use to do my work and find it easier for me.

Eliseu; Very good Video Going slower to teach a Trick is the way to go! If you went too fast it would be hard to Learn. WELL DONE!

The wrap came out real nice I wrap from left to right so I would have turned the rod around and did the white first and added the other colors as I went along

You indicate that you wrap from left to right.

Don't you normally wrap from the rod blank toward the guide foot and then up onto the guide foot - no matter which way that the guide happens to be located on the rod.

Fine for spinning guides, but for bait casting guides don't you wrap in one direction on one side of the guide and the opposite direction on the other side of the guide.

Just wondering.

On casting guides I do one foot from the blank onto the guide foot left to right When all are wrapped I turn the rod around and measure the wrap on each guide then wrap the other
I start at the tip and make them shorter there then longer as I go down to the butt guide
To me this looks better as the blank gets thicker the wrap gets longer

Roger, there are a number of people who wrap in only one direction, right to left or left to right. On double foot guides they merely switch the blank over, so that they wrap both feet in the same direction. I started the same way until I became comfortable wrapping in both directions.....to each his own !!!

Bill B.: I also use a compass to determine guide width - a compass with two needles for pointers. Do you use your compass to scale down the width of your trim bands as your guide wraps get narrower?
