I'm fairly new to rod building and I have built two spinning rods using the NGC for guide placement so far. One part I'm confused with is the method calls for aligning the outside rim of the reduction guides along the line between the spool CENTER and outside rim of the choker guide. It makes more sense to me to align the outside rim of the reduction guides along the line between the OUTSIDE rim of the spool and outside rim of the choker guide. Does this makes sense and has anyone tried this? Re: NGC alignment confusion

That will work but you're going to find it much more difficult to obtain guides in a height that will allow you to do that. In a nutshell - it's unnecessary.
