A friend wants me to build him a rod, and he's curious about using recoil guides. I have used them on fly rods before, with a textured line, and they were noisy. It didn bother me, but I want to make him aware of all the potential issues. He fishes with braid. For this of you who have used them in this application (mainly for largemouth bass in his case), were they noisy?
Second question, did you use them just for the first few larger guides or throughout the whole rod? Thanks for your help. Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

The recoil guides are good guides. They are also very noisy when used with braid.
Good luck Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

I've used them on many builds and haven't had a single person mention they are noisy, customers use a combination of braid and mono. I have one on a personal rod and can't say I have noticed much noise either (I use Suffix 832 6lb or Nanofil 8lb). I personally like them a lot, although I'd venture to say a rod with Torzites or similar would likely cast a little better. Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

I always use a titanium ceramic insert tip top on saltwater rods, SS tip top on freshwater rods due to wear from line direction change, etc. Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

Spencer makes a good point. I always use a Fuji Titanium tip top and not the Recoil one. Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

Ti minimas would be another alternative if the noise of Recoils is an issue Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

Many of my own rods and several of my customers use recoils, I have not had any noise problems with them using power pro braid or mono. I too use a ceramic tip top. I'd rather be catching! Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

I used to get noise with them when fishing with braid, but not for several years. I think the braids have improved overall and it's not an issue any more. I mainly fish with invisibraid by spiderwire. I use recoil guides on probably half of my spinning rods. Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

For the runners, are you guys using RSF (single foot fly guides) or RSPG (micro guides)? Thinking of using some but not sure which guides. Thanks! Re: Recoil guides for spinning rod

RSPG for me although I believe the RSF would work just fine as well and may be a tad lighter. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
