Just got a Shimano TCurve deep jig 200 which is broken about 14 inch from tip. 2 ways to repair:
1. Just simply put a new tip on broken end and live with a much shorter rod with changed characteristics. 2. Repair by inner and outer sleeve to maintain original length. Thing is I'm not sure the repairs will remain strong enough to exert the forces as a 50lb rod. what's your thoughts? Re: Broken boat rod repair

Check the online library page for good repair methods and techniques. Ralph's article should lead you in the right direction.
It is also worth remembering that sometimes you end up with something that just can't be satisfactorily repaired. .............. Re: Broken boat rod repair

Ken,
As long as you use both an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve, and extend the sleeves for 3 inches or so on each side of the break, you will have a repair that will not break. But, there is no question about it - the repair will stiffen that section of the blank. Unfortunately, that particular section of the rod is where a lot of bending will occur on the rod. I have certainly repaired a lot of fresh water rods in locations like this on the rod and they worked out well. But - with respect to a 50 lb rod - I simply don't know if you would have a usable rod after the repair. Certainly one thing to be concerned with - would be that after the repair, that section of rod is going to be much stiffer in that area. As a result - I fear that the stress from fighting a big fish is now going to be transferred further up the rod, which would very likely break due to the unexpected strain on that part of the rod. As Mr. Kirkman suggested - some rods just can't be repaired in a way that lets the rod continue to do its purpose. All that you can do, is to repair the rod and give it a go. If it breaks again, it breaks again. If it doesn't break and the action doesn't stiffen up too badly for use - then use it. Other wise - you have to entertain other options.
