Returned home this evening and put the first finish coat on the second rod I wrapped identically to the one in the OP. This is the before pic with size A under wrap and size D over wrap, same spools and same #422 color. The end result was the same, the under wrap turned lighter again as in the first pic. Uncertain why the A thread would lighten on a dark rod though. Either way, the results were fine and thank you for all the input.

I used the yellow inlay as a center and to bring some of the yellow from the top thread wraps into the hook keeper. Smaller thread was an under wrap, larger for the over wrap. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
