I wrap my guides by hand, but I did make a rod dryer. For the chuck I used the same type of set up that Chris described earlier. except I used three nylon screws to hold the butt of the rods while drying.
Getting the rod centered in the chuck was more time consuming than I liked. so I simply made a rubber cap like you'd see on a Flex Coat or other similar chuck, for the PVC cap. I used a piece of an inner tube for a wheel barrel tire, and used two wire ties to secure it on the sides. Once I had the piece of inner tube stretched over the PVC cap I simply drilled a 5/8" hole in the middle. It has more than adequate holding power to turn any rod I'll ever build. Plus if it ever wears out I still have plenty of inner tube left to make several more. Re: Hand made wrapping station troubles.

And my wife has the nerve to ask, "why would you save an old innertube?" Re: Hand made wrapping station troubles.
