Advice Using MicroWave Guides on Shorter Rod

About to build a 6'6 Topwater casting rod for personal use with the guides being the MicroWave casting guides... Curious to the guide placement and how many guides to use being that it is only a 6'6 rod... Any advice guys would be helpful... Figuring my handle length to the reel will be about 8.5" in length

Normal distance from reel to butt guide would be standard. All you'd do is remove one or two of the running guides as needed to adjust for length.

Jay

What Tom wrote.

A more detailed explanation is the distances from the reel to the collection guide and from collection to the transition are really important, and 'the secret' for MicroiWave guide sets for spinning or bait casters. Check the instructions that cane with the guide set. Thereafter it is the usual trial, error, and adjust static load testing to find the optimum locations for the remainder of the guides. Just keep the collection and transition guides relative to the reel as recommended by the manufacturer.

FYI the inst. sheet that comes with the MicroWave casting guide set states "this set contains 1 stripper guide, 1 transition guide, and 7 running guides. A photo of such a set is also shown. What the set actually contains is 1 stripper guide and 8 runners. This is no problem, but don't be searching around for that transition guide that doesn't exist. Original sets may have had this guide (hence the photo), but it's no longer being used. Lynn

Good observation Lynn.... but the stripper guide in the standard MicroWave casting set does have a transition guide that is a tad taller than the running guides. The AirWaves and MicroLites are all the same.

To the O.P... Tom and others hit the nail on the head. We have found that as long as you are using a 1000-4000 size reel the stripping, transition and last running guides should be placed as the instructions state. We highly recommend static testing the rest of the running guides after you place them on using the supplied chart.

Thanks Don, I should have said " MicroWave casting AirWave set". Sorry for any confusion. Lynn
