Alps VD vs. Virtus

Hello! First post on this forum.

I am in the process of building a heavy jetty rod, using an 8'6" AmTak Bushido 50-80 400 gram. I am set on all of my components but the guides. I can't decide between Alps VDs with virconium rings or Virtus Heavys with duralite rings. Obviously the Virtus guides are the heavier option but are they really necessary? I'll be pairing the rod with a Penn Spinfisher 10500 which can do around 40lbs of drag. What do you all think about either of those choices? I'm open to suggestions as well!

Why not go with the MicroWave 30 set, with the Nanolite rings. Lighter, stronger, and better line control?

I've often thought about using microwave guides on freshwater rods, they just never crossed my mind for my heavy salt builds. Thanks for the suggestion!

With a blank and reel of that size I would highly suggest looking into the Virtus guides.... lights or heavy should work well. I think you will be super impressed with the short footprint, ring-lock system and the hinge points built into the Virtus frame. If you would like to try the MicroWave guides I would look at the MicroWave 50 set for this set up.

I have been using the Virtus guides lately and have been very happy with them.
