So I ordered some micro guides for a build but the more I think about it the more I realize it's just not going to be right for this build. However I have a 5' ultra light that these would be perfect on! The tip-top I ordered for the original build I believe is a 6.5 and the tip-top for the ultra light is either a 5 or 5.5 I can't remember off the top of my head but my question is could I use Flex Coat 5 Min epoxy to fill the gap. I thought about under wrapping where the tip top would go but that doesn't leave much room for the tip-top to bond to the actual rod.

You can wrap a base layer, slightly spiraled, and install the tiptip over that. It'll be fine.

As Tom suggested, just add the necessary number of thread wraps around the tip to have a nice fit for the tip top.
When I build some fine tipped rods I may have as many as 4 or 5 layers of thread around the tip, to get the necessary size to the rod tip to match the size of the tip top. I will try one layer, and hold the thread tight and see if it fits, if it is still loose, I will just go back up the tip with the wrapping thread to get another layer. If it is still too loose, I will come back down the tip etc. Be safe Re: Tip - Top To Big

Sometimes I will add a thin layer of finish and add the tip after the rod is done drying. The thread technique mentioned above is the standard though. Re: Tip - Top To Big

it all depends on how it looks when on the rod tip , if it don't look good spend the money an get a tip that will fit ,
I don't do a very good job on building a rods , but I am proud of it, so I will buy a new tip if it don't look good , William Sidney AK Re: Tip - Top To Big

Kenneth
If this is the only rod you will ever build then follow the excellent advise given above and use the tip you have. If you intend to build more rods, then order a tip that fits and save this tip for use on a future rod. Good luck John Re: Tip - Top To Big

You can wrap a base but is not nice....Send it back to exchange for the right size, is what I would do. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
