I typically do this with a fillet knife as you would remove the skin from a fish. Run the knife parallel to the blank while staying on top of the old glue. When you get all the foam off you can chip the glue off as best you can and then turn the blank and sand if you're careful not to go too deep. If you're simply replacing the foam you can let most of the old glue there. Lynn Re: old hypalon grips

Do you have a rod lathe? One way is to turn it off with some very coarse sandpaper or surform file.
You can also don a pair of heavy work gloves and with a piece of heavy spectra/spiderwire/etc., fishing line, shave the grip off the rod. ............... Re: old hypalon grips

Or you can sand it all off. If you really like dirt. I do like the line idea though! Re: old hypalon grips

David
I would use the fillet knife as Lynn suggests until you get close to the epoxy layer. Then I would use a Dremel with a wire wheel and GENTLY without over heating the blank remove the remainder of the foam remnants attached to the epoxy. It will be ok to leave a layer of epoxy on the blank. No matter what method you use it will be messy, I would try to have a shop vacuum running close by when wire brushing. Good luck!
