Sticky epoxy

I recently put thread finish on a rod I'm building and the 2nd go around came out kinda sticky I sanded it down wipped down with bottled water and a coffee filter and Refinished it. This go around was not as sticky but still some stick to it. What's weird is I am doing it the same way as I always do and have never had this issue before. I always use pro-kote. I was going to stick my decal on and have one last go around with finish do you think if I take extra care on my measurements that this will solve the issue and not have it dry with a slight stick to it? Or do you guys have any suggestions?

You Must be accurate with your measurements! Temperature can also have effect, if cold or cool, it takes longer to cure. Also not thoroughly mixing the components can be the problem.

How long has it been since you applied it ? Try putting it in your car on a sunny day with the windows up or just cracked.

Make sure you are mixing a sufficient amount to allow for a decent margin of error. At least 3ccs of each part.

If you are using syringes for measuring your epoxy make sure they are not medical syringes. Most medical syringes are treated with a silicon compound and this prevents the epoxy from hardening properly.

Make sure that your mixing ratio is exactly correct.

Make sure that you mix for at least 120 seconds or 2 minutes slowly to avoid introducing bubbles to the mix.

When applying have room temperatures of 70f or above.

If possible raise the drying temperatures of the rod to at least 80f or above to expedite the drying time.

A very common issue that causes a sticky non cured finish is not enough mixing time.

Mix by the clock, not by the appearance of the mix. Mix for a minimum of 120 seconds.

Be safe

If you have even the slightest suspicion that the finish is bad or contaminated, throw it out and replace it with new product.

There is too much work going into a rod, to have it ruined by putting a bad finish on a rod.

Epoxy almost never goes bad unless it has become contaminated some way.

Be safe

I know the mix has not been contaminated its brand new and I have only used the syringes provided by pro-kote. Maybe I didn't mix it long enough can I just put another coat on and If mixed properly will it harden okay?

Kenneth,
As the saying goes, a house built on sand, will not last long.

If you encapsulate sticky epoxy, the sticky epoxy will remain forever sticky - under what ever it is coated with.

Your choice.

Try letting it sit in a warm place for a couple of days Or run heat over it several times a day and see if that helps
Even in cold weather mine always set in 4 - 6 hours and hard overnight

If you try heat don't burn it light just warm
