After looking at the pricing of the matagi seats i decided to try my hand at painting my own. I was wanting to go with a pearl white. Has anyone had luck sourcing a paint? Doesn't look like testors makes a pearl white color.

Most pearl whites are a solid white base coat with a transparent pearl mid coat then a clear coat. I doubt you'll get the same effect out of a rattle can. I would ask a local body shop to spray the reel seat next time they do a white pearl tricoat.

Adam, Take Johns point about the Creatix paints. I've airbrushed blanks with Creatix paints and they came out great. Thier water based and are set using mild heat. Once clear coated with Perma- Glos they look like auto paint. They also have alot of colors.

By the time you get the paint, the pearl coat then the clear coat and ruin three or four seats in the practice stage the matagi seat is a good deal. Then you need to hope it holds up to the abuse. Im sure a primer will be needed also to make every thing stick. I had access to a full automotive paint mixing system of years and experimented with some seats that were $10 a dozen, result? Get the Matagi for a quality looking piece. I just could not get the coverage without making the threads bind up from the extra build up even after cutting them down a little.

I agree with John and Dennis, Creatix Auto Air paints, VERY user friendly, Available in small bottles, Not overly expensive at all, Great web support out there and a good website My son uses it on 1/5 gas RC truck bodies that are lexan plastic, After painting and heat setting it will not come off. And the colors are truly unbelievable !

There has to be a pearl-white nail polish. Sometimes you must sacrifice durability for appearance.

If you are going to mix your paint and spray with a gun You can go to any auto body supply and get Maybe quarts made up
Unless you plan to paint 1 - 200 seats
Have not painted for years but my understanding is Auto Paints are going warter based
