Hey guys so I really want to try out a point blank blank. I am looking at the 731MXF. I will be using 15lb flurocarbon or 20lb braid. Itll be for 3/16oz texas rigs, 1/2oz carolina rigs, or flipping 3/8oz jigs. Looking at the lure weighting and the line weighting of this blank, I am assuming its a a relatively stiff blank for a medium. Am I right? Would this be a good blank for what I want to do? thanks! Cameron, we use the 731MXF around here for a poppin' cork because it handles the weight perfectly which is probably pushing an oz. It's a lot of weight for the blank but we use a sweeping sort of cast so we don't overpower the blank and it really launches a cork. It's (731MXF) also turned out to be extraordinary for bigger topwaters like a Skitterwalk. For a 3/16 Texas Rig and 1/2 oz Carolina rigs I think I would drop down to the 731MLF. I would not use it as a Flippin' rod. It has plenty of power for that but that sort of short range hook set is better left to the MH and H models. Going a little lighter than you think will help you ease into the different feel these blanks have but you'll still have plenty of power when you need it. One hour on the water and you'll never go back!
Hope this helps. Re: Wanting to build on a Point Blank blank
