There is no governing body for custom rod building and therefore no such thing as a "certified" rod builder.

Doesn't North Fork Composites have a program wherein a builder can submit a finished rod (built on a North Fork blank, of course), and North Fork will make a determination as to whether the rod meets their standards of what a well-built custom rod should be? The rod, if I'm remembering this correctly, does not necessarily need to be a work of art, but does need to meet standards in terms of components used, and how the rod is put together (where the guides are sized and placed, how the guides are wrapped, how the handle is put together, etc.).
This isn't free, of course -- the finished rod, if I'm remembering this correctly, becomes property of NFC. But if this program still exists, and you're looking for some kind of Official Certificate for Being A Real, Honest-to-Goodness Custom Rod Builder, this might be just the ticket, because a seal of approval from NFC is about as good an endorsement as you'll get in the fishing world. It might be worth checking with them to see if this thing is still available. Re: Certified RodBuilder

The NFC program was directly aimed at builders wishing to be included on the North Fork approved/recommended rod builder list. It wasn't an across the board certification program at large.

When I build a rod and it functions the way it is supposed to and the person is happy and catches a lot of fish with it, that's all the 'certification' I need. Re: Certified RodBuilder

You could try dropping Doc Ski (James Labanowski) an email. I think he's involved in some sort of certification process. Re: Certified RodBuilder

That's certifiable. There is a difference. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
