How did you learn it is a bakelite blank? Rod blanks seldom display their chemical or physical composition - even weight! Re: Bakelite blank

Probably the maker's company name. I don't believe that Bakelite was used to make rod blanks. Reel seats, yes.

If you read the article, you find that bakelite was very successfully used to mold rigid parts and is still in use today for some of its unique properties. However, bending was not high on its property list. So, likely used for other components rather than bendable rod blanks as Mr. Kirkman pointed out. Suffice to say, that you have found a great old rod that has some nice properties. A chemical analysis, would tell you its exact chemical composition. Be safe Re: Bakelite blank

Ok after some research it appears the blank maker used phenolic resin as the glue (as used for bakelite) These rods were manufactured pre ww2 in England. I put the rod together and fished it myself as a test. Its awesome and immediately caught fish,(what we call shad I think called blue fish in the usa).
Having used bakelite on the early days of my electrical career I remember the smell when sanding down(like tcp) and thanks Roger I will add it to my already overlarge personal collection Rob Re: Bakelite blank
