I have built about 7 or 8 rods over the last 3 years. Always used cork kits for handles.
This go round my granddaughter wants me to build one for her boy friend so I'd like to do one with his school colors in eva in the handle/grip. I've looked at several you tube videos which show turning eve on a lathe but I need to back up further than that, to the actual inlay process itself. 1. if I use a miter box to cut the eva pieces do I need to sand the joining surfaces so they will show well when turned, or will compressing them when gluing do the same thing. 2. also what glue/adhesive to use... is rod bond or pro paste the right stuff. any other tips or techniques would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind wasting some materials, but if I can get help or instruction on the basics I sure rather go that route..... Re: creating eva inlay handles

RodMaker Volume 7 #3 would help you a great deal.
Contact cement is the proper adhesive for joining EVA pieces. If you slice the pieces cleanly with a razor blank or fine tooth saw, you shouldn't need to sand the mating surfaces. However, if those surfaces are clean and flush, then yes, you'll have a ragged joint showing. The mating surfaces do need to be square and clean. .................. Re: creating eva inlay handles

I have done several EVA grips. Not hard , just takes planning and a good fine saw blade. I have used both a band saw and a miter saw. Just take your time and practice on scrap pieces. Send me an email and I can help you ouy Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
