I have Guderbrod color preserver that I got literally a decade ago, so is it okay to use? And do I need to apply it? Mudhole's website didn't specify, so I'm assuming so.... Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

You don't need color preserver on Color Fast thread...That's what the name means. Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

One coat will help to get rid of any bubbles that come out of the thread Bill - willierods.com Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

I agree with Bill. You can also use perma gloss before coating. Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

Miles,
Unless you want the color preserver for color effects, you don't need to put color preserver on any thread that you put on a rod. I normally never use color preserver unless a client has made a specific request for a color that I can not get any other way. I personally like the fact that with no color preserver on the thread, I get complete penetration of the finish through the thread. I also prefer the look that I get with uncoated thread so that it just tends to disappear into the blank. But it is, as always, your choice. Be safe Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

If you are using a high build finish You will probably have to heat it -- to thin it -- to get the bubbles out The whole idea is to use a light finish - like CP to soak into the thread and replace the air Then the light finish also releases any bubles a lot easier then a high build Bill - willierods.com Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

Excuse me...The question was " Do I need CP with Color Fast thread?" The answer is NO.
What don't you understand about that? Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

BUT
You need something thin to soak into the thread-so as to release bubbles form the air - IN THE THREAD --- CP, thin finish, permagloss Bill - willierods.com Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

I'm going to do a coat of CP to reduce the risk of bubbles, and make sure the thread is tight. I haven't built a rod in over a decade, so if I have thread problems I'd rather see it with CP and not epoxy.
I appreciate all the help everyone! Posting here works a lot better than a google search. I will repost with how it goes! Re: Pro Wrap Color Fast need color preserver?

Did a coat of CP, everything went good. The threads are not perfect but I can work on that. I plan on doing epoxy tomorrow so we will see how it goes! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
