I just posted 2 picks of a rod a broke today and would appreciate your thoughts on the cause.
It broke on the backcast with an unweighted senko at the end of a full day's fishing. The break is almost exactly 1/2 way between the 3rd and forth guide. I've used this rod about 15 times for several hours each time. I used it for 4 hours today and caught several bass (nothing to brag about). Put it down. Did a short boat ride on a flat lake. Picked it up to cast and it popped on the back cast. Thank you for your ideas Jay Re: what caused this break

Without a clearer photo and one of the interior of the rod, my best guess is that it was bruised or fractured by something. Perhaps it was hit on something or was bouncing on the boat deck on a hard item or surface during that boat ride.

I would say that it was almmost certainly caused by pre-existing damage as Tom suggested. A factory defect likely would have caused breakage sooner. Whatever damage was present could have occured before that boat ride and pure chance prevented the failure up until that point. That cast just may have had the right combination of flex, torque, bad luck, etc. -The Batson TEAM BatsonEnterprises.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
