A friend brought me this rod to replace the two guides on it. It is a St. Croix fiberglass casting rod. It is 4 ft. 10 inches long, and I was asked if I knew how old it might be. Not knowing I thought I would ask if anyone has any idea when it was built. On it is the number 145 ??

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that rod is from the 1970's. I'm dating by the handle, and skip and screw design.

find out what the person is going to fish for , after that decide on what to do replace them all or just the ones missing , it will be very hard to match the missing ones , to much time spent looking for the missing guides that is what I suggest R & R THEM ALL
less time spent on the job A money job or just friend ship job that is what I think

Any time that a rod comes in with missing guides, I tell the client that I will get one with a reasonable match, or would rather just replace all of the guides.

Thanks for all the input. Interesting reading too. My client had the two old rusty guides in a bag. They look very similar to the Pac Bay CSGB guides and she is ok with using them and a new tip top. It is not going to used anymore for fishing just a memory of the past. I believe that the thread wraps were spiraled on both sides of the guide foot and the thread is one piece. It wraps under the guide ring to the other side and back down the foot. At least that is how I will be doing it and she likes the look. Whatever pleases makes me happy ??

I just traded a guy one about same as that,had to be from ythe 50's,thats before i knew st.croix was usa made,and name you can trust.
