I am a Prokote, lite build, fan; but I am thinking of adding some Threadmaster to the mix to give it some more durability. My question is: do you mix the two epoxies separately and then combine them and mix together? Or, mix the Prokote Epoxy & Harder with the Threadmaster Epoxy & Hardener at the same time. I usually mix 3 ml of epoxy & 3 ml of harder with an electric epoxy mixer. I really like the Prokote light; but am looking for a more durable finish.
Appreciate any input! Don Campbell don@sensorfishingrods.com Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster

Don,
If memory serves me correctly, Billy Vivona is the one to ask on this. Tom Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster

You do not have to premix each individually and then combine, but you certainly can do it that way if you like. Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster

If you're going to do it, mix the two resins, then the two hardeners, and then combine for the final mix.

make a test run to see if it works out for you on some scrap , it might save you a lot of time if it don't work out . William Sidney AK Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster

It seems to me that if this action made a better finish the professional chemists at the suppliers would have already done it and it would be on the market. Under a name like Flex Coat, just to name one.
I'm not saying that Flex Coat is better than any other finish, it's just an example; I'm just saying that I will trust in the pros do do my formulating for me. Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster

Bill,
Most automotive finishes are two part urethanes. They would be very difficult for most rod builders to use, not to mention the environmental hazards they pose without the use of proper equipment. ............... Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster

The hardest thing is to be able to measure the 3 to 1 parts Unless you are painting a car the amounts are a lot smaller
With a mixing cup and a little experimentation you can figure oit out Bill - willierods.com Re: Mixing ProKote & Threadmaster
