Im trying to fix a finish went wrong after a decal edge lifted. The lifted edge can be cleanly trimmed with a blade but there is also like a small valley in the epoxy (like an inverse lump) which was caused as a result of the edge lifting. I was wondering whether one can fix this without sanding the whole decal area. If only it is possible to put epoxy in the 'valley' maybe 20 mins after mixing in order that it will just fill in this 'valley' without spreading on the rest, obviously without turning the rod on the dryer. Do you think this is achievable ? Re: Fixing small epoxy 'valley'

The epoxy won't stay put and if it did there would be a obvious edge. Depending on the severity of the uneveness and thickness of the epoxy adding another coat could cure or exacerbate the problem. I'd try recoating keeping a close eye and adding/subtracting some finish as it starts to set. If that doesn't work strip and redo. All this is based on the assumption that the lifted label edge looks acceptable. Re: Fixing small epoxy 'valley'

Hi Alistair,
I do a lot of feather and jewel inlays, and sometimes I have to build up or take down the level of epoxy, because of peaks and valleys. I have done as you proposed: I let the epoxy start to set up, and then applied it only to the valley I wanted to fill. I keep an eye on it for an hour or so, leaving it sit facing up, or hand rotating it to ensure it stays where I put it. After cured, I trim with a scalpel, if needed, and put one or more additional coats over everything, to have a nice smooth surface. Take care, Chris Re: Fixing small epoxy 'valley'
