Can I make a simple winding check from thread? Maybe put down the base color nylon thread and then a 1/8" band of metallic over top? There is not much of a gap to fill and i forgot to order a normal winding check. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Mark Re: Thread winding check?

You bet you can! Winding checks are made of many different materials, including thread. Some even do 3 or 4 layers of different colors, with deceasing widths. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/11/2015 05:56PM by Phil Erickson. Re: Thread winding check?

Thread would make a great winding check. It shows that you took great care to keep the gap between the rod blank and the end of the fore grip very close. John Re: Thread winding check?

I seldom use winding checks exc at the front of a casting seat where I have no foregrip. The builds look a lot cleaner without checks, especially without those metal dimpled ones that look like something out of a midieval video game. Try a split grip spinning rod sometime without checks and you'll be surprised and pleased with how clean it looks. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
