The last rod I finished I really had trouble getting finish on the front side of the guide to seal up the guide foot on size 4 Kigan z guides. My 1/8" brush is too big to dab a little in front of the guide without getting finish up on or near the guide ring. Anyone have any tips or ideas for filling in the front of the guide? I was thinking of a small pin or something to push a little finish into that area but I'm not sure how that will work.
Thanks, Joe Re: finishing micro guides

I use very fine pointed artists brushes from the hobby stores. Some of them have extremely fine tapers and almost come to a needle point. You can usually pick up a "set" of 5 or 6 brushes in a package for 5 or 6 bucks. I even have one brush that I let the finish harden on the brush and I use it over and over to dab finish on the guide foot tunnel openings a drop at a time.

I use a toothpick, with a small drop on the end I put it behind the guide foot. Re: finishing micro guides

And we use the bare end of a finishing brush sharpened in a pencil sharpener to dab a drop in front of each guide to fill the tunnel before rotating and applying the entire coat.
Usually just once at the first coat is enough. The sharp point allows you to get the finish exactly where you want it, and the brush gives you something easy to hang on to. I have used a toothpick and actually stand the rod up and put little drops in with the toothpick before putting it in the dryer to apply finish with the brush. It seem to help the epoxy run under since the rod is vertical. Re: finishing micro guides

I use an old fly tying bodkin or a live bait rigging needle. Re: finishing micro guides

Any type of pointed object works as well a a pointed brush. i Use a pointy burnishing tool as it generally holds enough epoxy to transfer to the wrap suficently. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
