I have a friend that wants me to build him a 9ft spinning rod like they use down in florida for king fishing. He wants it light enough to throw cigar minnows but with plenty of backbone. I have found a couple of salmon rods that look like it would work but not sure, any suggestions are appreciated. Re: gulf coast style king fishing blank

Hi James,
When I first moved to Florida, many years ago, I brought along my old South Bend rod. This was a rod that I had used for years catching Salmon and it had served me well. When a friend offered me a a chance to go trolling for kings I jumped at the chance and, not knowing what to expect, I took along the old South Bend. As it turned out, it worked well and I pretty much went away with the idea that any good Salmon rod would also make a "decent" Kingfish rod and nothing has happened to change my mind. Good Luck. I had good luck when I was stationed in Florida with my Lamiglas G-1344T, the blank is the GLB 108 2ML.
It's a 20 lb. line class blank. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/05/2015 12:52PM by Spencer Phipps. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
