Has anyone tried writing on a plain transparent decal and transfering it to the rod? Re: Decal

I've done it with good brands of clear tape. Haven't actually tried it on clear decal media.

Bill,
If you are going to write, write directly on the blank. Very easy and simple to do. If you make a mistake, you can always wipe it off with the appropriate cleaner for the material being used to write. Take care Re: Decal

Roger thank you for that reply But at 80years old I think a flat surface would better. Tom would you tell me what brands of clear tape you would suggest. Re: Decal

Bill,
Another option that works well for me is to use another person to do the writing. In my case, my wife is an artist and does a wonderful job of lettering. You may have a friend that would like to help out this way. Take care Re: Decal

I used water slide decals for my signature a while back. I sprayed the media with the top coat that was required. (In my case the media and top coat was Testors) Then I signed with a silver paint pen, let it dry, cut out and applied to the blank. I let it dry a good long while (overnight) and finished. It seemed to work. I hope that helps! I will say that these days, I use custom made decals from some of our sponsors to the left! Re: Decal

Bill, I'm sure Tom will come to the party for you, but I've read on this forum of others doing what you intend to do with clear mailing labels. I have not used that. What you may think of as looking crude when you write on the blank others may consider character. If you sink the blank into a groove in a piece of wood it is almost like writing on a flat surface. It puts the level of the blank at the level of your hand.
By using a decal media you are opening a potential for problems at the edge of the decal. On peel and stick decals I put a thin line of CP on the edges to prevent their curling. Make sure to really rub the decal down with a hard object like your thread tool (use a layer of paper to pad it and prevent damaging the decal). With any writing you need to understand your ink/paint and what will cause it to smear, what will not. Some that say they are waterproof smear with CP, others with epoxy. I put a coat of Papillio fixative on mine before finishing. Re: Decal
