1st rod, started over

So, I did a very simple butt wrap, then wrapped all the guides on my 1st rod, got finished putting on the cp, decided that I could do a better butt wrap, so stripped the old one off, then wrapped a nice, (for me) diamond blue and silver wrap on. Then decided there was a differnce in quality between the 1st guides I did and the last, so went back and stripped off all the guides, again just had cp on them, no epoxy. Rewrapped all the guides, still need to recoat them with cp. How many others have done this, gotten mostly thru a rod, decided you could do better, or read an article on a different type of wrap and went back and started over on a rod, especially your 1st?
Did want to say thanks for all the advice I've been given on this forum, and also for the articles that have been so helpfull.
I am looking for a video if there is one that explains burnishing, not sure I understand exactly what I am trying to accomplish, is it primarily to flatten the threads and make the pattern bigger?
I have already ordered my next rod build, I'm sure I will have plenty of questions for this one too.
Thanks
John

Lol, been building rods since '79...

If you're not cutting and redoing thread, you're not expanding your knowledge and skill.

Just a couple months ago I cut of a closed dec wrap, twice, before I was satisfied with it.

I have looked back at some of my rods and wish I had taken the time to do that. Rod building teaches you patience for sure. One thing in the process done wrong ruins the whole deal. Everything can be forgiven until the thread epoxy is applied. After that it gets more difficult.

I agree John been wrapping about the same years. Made what I thought were bad color and pattern choices and started cutting.
what makes us rod builders is the perfection goal. I haven't found perfection yet. maybe some day!LOL

I like to have time to fish and do not like the redo.

Over the years, I have redone quite a few rods. Various reasons, but all were better after the redo.

Take care

I just finished a rod this week and I already see stuff that I could improve on. Which in turn makes me start thinking about unwrapping it lol
