Hi Fred,

Please give us details on the intended use of the rod such as weights wanting to cast, going to use it in a rod holder or hold it in hand, what beach, target species of fish and conditions.


I built a St Croix Avid SCIII surf rod last year to fish the OBX but it is the 11' rod rated 3-8 ounce and I find it to be very light at 7 oz and very versatile. They have a 12' surf rod that is heavier for situations that require more weight to hold the bottom.

Bill he is already looking at the Seeker surf and is asking if there if it will fitwork the bill or is there better out there that I would assume in a similar price point unlike the CTS.

If you are looking for a light blank 18 oz is too much, there are plenty 12 ' or close to that are reasonably priced weighing in around 10 oz such as Lamiglas gsb, Fiberstar Composites, and St.Croix which are made in the USA like the Seeker. Then there is the new Rod Geeks surf rod line made in Mexico with St. Croix tapers. I am going to check them out at the expo.

Come on It is a Seeker Has any one -- ever -- said anything bad about Seeker ???
Then again Lamiglass is known for surf blanks

Appreciate input guys. Its for a Marine budy who fishes surf in outer banks. I live in atlanta area and fish solely freshwater and make my own poles. But I learned rod building in mid 70s living in Pacifica Ca buipding surf rods.

I was 15 hanging around the Coastside #2 baitshop and the older guys took me under their wings. To my best knowledge, he just wanted a 12 ft 2 piece rod for 2-6 oz application. Im a big fan of Seeker. I build a lot of my striper rods outta the @#$%& 706 S glass blank and they have served me extremely well. Never broke one ever and it is just perfect. Im a full time guide and my stuff gets used good.

I trust Seeker products. I dont know exactly how he fishes. I suspect big plugs and bottom fishing. More or less this rod will be used on extended vacations.

Now should I go with the K guides or go old school? Im just not familiar with seeker surf blanks. But very familiar with their lighter stuff and love them for their light weight toughness and quality I take it the SU has been around and is tried and tested?

Not knocking Seeker rod blank quality at all. There is always give or take when it comes to weight and durabilty.

For guides I like the Alps with 316 stainless steel sv double leg for reduction guides and I believe they are the m doubles legs for runners size 10. American Tackle makes a similar product as well.
