Hi Guy,
Does this sound right to you? The blank is a 10' tommy farmer ccp 1-4ounce. I used the guide reduction system where you make use of the choker guide for the first time. The reduction guides are BSVLG 40,25,16 then the choker. The guide spacing seems perfect and I ended up with 9 guides. I did away with the 30 and 20 which I would have had in the old guide train as they seemed like excess. I have a hard time though coming to terms with the line being choked down so quickly. For those that use this system for spacing guides does this sound right? Thanks. Re: Reduction guides on a surf rod does this sound right?

It sounds reasonable. Now just go out and cast it. You'll know by the 2nd or 3rd cast if it's right and if so, you'll no longer have a hard time coming to terms with choking the line down so quickly.

Ben,
If you think about it, the microwave system chokes the line down in less than inch. Wrap it and cast it and enjoy it. Be safe Re: Reduction guides on a surf rod does this sound right?

What size spinning reel will you be using on the rod? Re: Reduction guides on a surf rod does this sound right?

Whats the reel? Many modern surf layouts are starting with a 30 now Re: Reduction guides on a surf rod does this sound right?

Thanks for the help guys.
The guides seem to have worked out perfectly. The reel is a shimano baitrunner 6500 (sold in Australia). I may have been able to use a 30 for the 1st guide as well. The trouble I had is I specialise in fly rods with the odd smaller spin rod. This was a special request by my brother for a holiday and I had to have it done inside of 5 days. He didn't really have a clue what he wanted other than 10' and throw 1-3 ounce metals. I did a lot of surf fishing about 15 years ago and have repaired guides on a lot of surf rods but this was the first total build for me so like I said I had a hard time getting my head around the new guide concept. I am going to start using it on small spin rods though because one thing fly rods has taught me is the more you can stop the line slap the further the line will shoot.
