Would removal of the 2 coats of flex coat slow cure from a St. Croix legend tournament rod blank possibly make a 7.5 tip into a 7 ??? Re: removal of flex coat slow cure ..

Why is there Flex Coat epoxy on the tip of the blank? St. Croix surely didn't put it there. Not sure what is going on, but it someone slapped a couple coats of FC on there before installing the tiptop it very well could reduce the tip OD by that much.

Peter,
If you have a bunch of paint or finish on a rod tip, you can certainly use a razor blade that is scrapped perpendicular to the rod blank and any finish or paint will come off just fine. No need to have any finish or paint on a blank over the top of the graphite before attaching the tip. Re: removal of flex coat slow cure ..

The paint goes all the way to the tip and has a clear coat applied at the factory. There is no flex coat on the tip when you purchase a blank. Re: removal of flex coat slow cure ..

St. Croix doesn't coat their rod blanks with epoxy, Flex Coat nor otherwise. No.

Blanks aren't coated with Flex Coat, nor any other similar epoxy.

St. Croix blanks are only painted. If you scrape off the paint, you may or may not get the size you're looking for. I always remove the paint before installing the tip. Re: removal of flex coat slow cure ..

Hi Peter,
I read that on the St. Croix website, under the descriptions for their fully built rods. I'm gonna bet that refers to the guide wraps only, and not the rod blank itself. Take care, Chris Re: removal of flex coat slow cure ..
