I'm going to clean and refinish an old graphite blank with satin polyurethane from a spray can as an experiment; quick, dirty, and cheap. Has anyone tried this, and if so, any suggestions? Re: refinishing a blank

Make sure whatever brand you use is rated for outdoor application. I think what you are really looking for is spray URETHANE like Min-Wax 33255 Satin finish spar urethane. Re: refinishing a blank

I also use a few coats of spray on urethane after repainting fiberglass rods. Re: refinishing a blank

If it's the satin finish that you're after, you could always just use Perma Gloss and scuff the surface lightly with a gray Scotchbrite pad after it's dry? That way you'd be taking all of the guess work out of finding the right product. Just a thought. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/06/2015 07:06AM by David Baylor. Re: refinishing a blank

Continuing the "Q.&D." refinish I wiped off the blank, re-colored it with magic marker, let it dry for 15 minutes, and sprayed it with a couple of coats of polyurethane from a spray can. No messing with dryer jig and motor, less than 1 hour elapsed time, adjusted cost less than $3, and no messing with dryer motor and jig. The finished rod (I masked the guides and grip) looks surprisingly good. I'll see how it holds up. Requests for quick fixes from those who want to go fishing - tomorrow - are fairly common.
