How short is too short?

I'm about to install a Minima spin seat. (downlocking, no foregrip) I would like to cut the threaded barrel short enough so that no threads show when the reel is installed. Is there any need for threads to extend beyond the rear of the hood?

The way to determine the proper minimum length is to unscrew the locking nut far enough that you can get the reel foot into the hoods. Anything left beyond the moveable nut at that point can be removed.

Lynn

Follow Toms' advice to get the minimum length.

Regardless of the method used there will always some or partial thread exposed when the hood moves to lock the reel foot in place.

The final configuration will accept reels with the same or shorter length foot.

Good luck

John

Remember that if you are changing reels that not all have the same foot length so maybe a little extra for good measure.

I find myself usually trimming off 3-4 threads which leaves 1 full thread at the end. Of course seats & reels vary

Lynn,
I used to do that. i.e. shorten the threads. But over time I wanted to change reels on some of the rods, and found that for some of the reels that I wanted to then use, the reel seat was too short for the new reel.

A good rod can last for many different reels. I will often use a different reel on a rod, when doing something different with the rod. I very much do NOT dedicate a specific rod to a given rod.

When I go fishing, I take a bag of rods, and a bag of reels. Then, when I grab the rod that I want to use, I grab the particular reel that I want to use and attach it to the rod.

Take care
