I'm looking for a few ice rod blanks to build. I would like ultra light with the tip soft enough to act as indicator for pan fish. I tried the search, but came up empty. I realize the sponsors offer them, but I'd like someone with experience to help, someone who might have experience with such blanks.
Thanks Re: Ice rod blanks

A tip that acts like a spring bobber. Those look great. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/01/2015 09:11PM by Tom Kirkman. Re: Ice rod blanks

Bruce,
For a blank that does not need a spring bobber you can not beat the Mud Hole solid fiberglass power noodle. By far my biggest seller. Very soft tip for bite detection but Mud Hole beefed it up at mid-blank for a better hook set than any other fiberglass micro style ice rod blank. Buzz Re: Ice rod blanks

Jann's microlite 31" panfish blank will work well. Re: Ice rod blanks

Utmost has a good selection of blanks that can be built as ice rods as well. Call Carol. Re: Ice rod blanks

Thorne Brothers makes a killer pan fish rod blank. I find that most "panfish" blanks are a bit to heavy for the application if your talking light jigs (60-100th oz). For these small blanks I always wrap in a titiaum guide wire for a spring bobber with the tip tip. You do not always have to run the light through it but when you need it its there. I can put a small crappie minnow on the line down 15-20 feet and watch the tip giggle and you can almost tell when a fish comes near as it speeds up quite a bit. it is a little 5-10 dollar add on depending on which one you use but well worth it., Re: Ice rod blanks
