Dropped into a Harbor Freight today to look around. I don't know how long the sale is, but they have a 6" digital caliper for $14.99 regulary $29.99! It came with a case, a battery, and an extra battery. I just played with it and am really surprised at the quality. Knowing it's an important tool I thought I would give everyone a heads up! I have been using the same H.F. caliper for about 5 years. Find a source for batteries and get yourself a few spares. If the caliper sits unused for long periods of time the batteries die - even with very little actual "on" time! It is a nice functional unit to have in your tool drawer.

Miles,
With these calipers, it is normally a good idea to disassemble the calipers, clean them up, deburr them, lubricate them and reassemble them. Also, the $20 caliper is a better caliper that tends to have better settings and a more consistent quality. Good luck Re: Just bought a new digital caliper for $14.99!

Snap -On tools sells a very similar set of digital calipers for only a few dollars more. Probably a jap manufacture but they are quality tools and come with exxtra batteries. they seem to be accurate enough for our kind of work. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
