What blank for trout and reds?

Hey guys so I need some help on deciding on a blank. I have a guy that wants me to build him a spinning rod for trout. He will be fishing a Mirrodine suspending twitchbaits that is 3/8oz. He said he wants a 7 foot rod. The place where he fishes for trout also gives him a chance to hook into a red. So the rod also needs to be able to handle a larger redfish as well. I was thinking something like a MHX MB843 or a MHX SJ843. What would you recommend? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/26/2015 11:46AM by Cameron Johnson. Re: What blank for trout and reds?

Give Lance at Swampland a call. He will have teh MHX and also some Seeker options( my first choice) that he could advise you on.
Its what his customers fish for down in Louisiana. Re: What blank for trout and reds?

The Mirrodine - especially the 18MR18 Heavy Dine - is a spectacular bait. I am building a bunch of rods for that specific bait right now. I like the MHX P843-MHX best with the St. Croix 3S70MLF and Batson XP843 a close second. The Batson IP843 is also very good for the money.
Any quality 7' popping rod in a 3 or 4 power will work, but a slightly faster tip helps with the casting distance in my experience. And these blanks are fast enough for that without running the risk of tearing hooks out of the mouth of a trout. That bait will outfish live shrimp when conditions are right...I have a few that have been in service going on 2 years and look like they got drug behind my truck on the highway. But they still catch fish...hope this helps. Re: What blank for trout and reds?

Just curious - what Seeker blank do you like for this application? Re: What blank for trout and reds?

The Seeker P704 is an awesome blank if you can get one...literally got my hands on one since this thread started. Re: What blank for trout and reds?

Cameron,
being as you stated you were specifically looking at MHX models I would like to give you my $0.02. We have a couple of models which will work for this application and these are my 2 favorites for trout and red fish. the first being the "SJ842-MHX" [www.mudhole.com] and the 2nd being the "DS822-Blend". [www.mudhole.com] While these are only my favorites they have performed well for me for 5 years. Todd Regards, Todd Vivian Mud Hole Custom Tackle todd@mudhole.com Re: What blank for trout and reds?
