Has anyone reversed an American Tackle Aero reel seat so its in the uplocking position? How does it work? I hold my real with at most one finger behind the handle so it seems like the reel seat should go the other way to to put the bump in my palm. I haven't seen one like this in my research so I was curious.
Thanks, Joe Re: Reversed Aero reel seat

All the time..... some people prefer it that way. Depends on how you hold the rod

Here is what I find on the Aero seat.
If you hold the reel stem between your ring and middle finger, down locking is good. If you hold between your pinky and ring finger I prefer uplocking. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/20/2015 08:03PM by Marc Morrone. Re: Reversed Aero reel seat

I typically have 3 fingers in front of the stem, so uplocking works better for me. Plus with it that way, you don't have to do much of a grip, so it keeps the weight down. Re: Reversed Aero reel seat

My personal builds have them uplockong. I hold with three fingers in front of the reel foot also, and its the most comfortable 'backwards'.

In addition to up or down locking, one can use a different locking nut on the seat to change the overall feel and appearance.
[www.rodbuilding.org] I personally much prefer to use down locking for the way that I hold the reel. I also put a slight depression in the rear grip to give a total feel for the reel and seat to fill the palm of the hand. Take care Re: Reversed Aero reel seat

Robert,
Here are some pictures: [www.rodbuilding.org] In particular, look at the picture that is one up from the bottom picture. This style is the way that I shape most of the grips that I use with the Aero Tackle reel seat Re: Reversed Aero reel seat
