I am building a saltwater trolling rod, 3 peace travel rod, Phenex blank.
I am using EVA grips and aluminum gimbal and reel seat. I am making my own polyurethane arbors for the gimbal and reel seat. I am turning with a lathe but, not 100% certain of the arbors being absolutely round. I am in the machine industry so round to me means round within .001". I am thinking about using tape as an tenon for the gimbal and the reel seat. For the reel seat just 1/8 on the ends and on the gimbal on the open end to match up with the grip. Does that sound feasible? I usually use 5 minute epoxy for my grips. Should I stick with that or use Tite Bond for the arbors and grips? Doug,
Your suggestions with the tape will work just fine for the arbor. Since 5 minute epoxy only gives you about 90 seconds of working time, I would use a slower drying epoxy for the glue up. Do not use Titebond, since it is a wood glue and requires air to cure. If Titebond is on the inside of a reel seat, it will never cure and set up. I generally use 30 minute epoxy for all of my glue the blank to the rod blank and to the reel seat. [www.amazon.com] Take care Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
