tip top gauge

I bought a tip top gauge from mudhole (fuji ) and wondered what the #s represent?
I measured 2 rod tips with my micrometers,
.077" or 1.99mm the gauge reads 5.5
the other was .088" or 2.3mm this one the gauge reads 6
What do the 5.5-6 represent, 64ths of an inch?
TIA
Paul

Paul,
Yes, the amount of 64ths of an inch equates to the size of the tip top.

i.e. the tip top will have a tube size measure, and a ring size measure.

The tube is listed as # 64ths of an inch.

Paul

I also recently bought a Mudhole CRB tip& guide sizer (the bigger one), and have noticed that on mine the 4.5/64ths pin and the 5/64ths pin seem to be reversed. The pin marked for 4.5 is actually size 5 and the pin marked for 5 is actually 4.5., or at least on mine it is! No big deal to me if I remember to swap, and it is still a useful tool.

Thanks for the answers guys, I was a little taken back by the half sizes……
I will take your advice Roger T and check my gauge to a drill index I have.
Thanks again

Paul -- You can stick with your drill index should you choose to.

I would agree. I think mine is sized bigger as well.
