Guys
A friend asked me to build him a rod. I'm struggling to find a 7' 3# rod that is two pieces. Any suggestions? I would prefer to stick with Batson but have look at others. Does anyone build on phoenix? I'm open for suggestions. Re: help selecting 3# 7' fly rod

If he's fishing mostly dry flies, you might consider one of the fiberglass blanks. Lamiglas has a nice 7' 3Wt 2-piece in glass that many small stream dry fly anglers really like. It's significantly slower than the graphite blanks you discussed however so might not be exactly what your customer wants.

St. Croix makes one in their SC111 series. I have built on an older one and it is a very nice blank. Re: help selecting 3# 7' fly rod

You might ask him what kind of fishing he does though I'm thinking small streams with that size. You should try the Phenix and offer a report later! :) I too would suggest a fiberglass blank. and is he firm on a 7' 3wt? lot's of 7'6 3wts. I wrapped a 7' 2 piece 3/4wt on a "Tiger-eye" graphite blank years ago and it's still one of my favorites though no longer made. That St Croix SC III fits the sizing requirements...
