Since paint itself is made to stand up to the elements, what advantage or disadvantage would I get if I painted a rod blank with appropriate paint and did NOT put any sort of top clear coat on it? Why would I want to add the extra weight of a clear coat? Re: Just paint?

A clear coat providing more protection and a better look than just paint on the surface are a couple of the reasons cited for their use on most vehicles today. Re: Just paint?

Its no different than having a car with or without'
without, the paint takes all the punishment. with, the clear coat takes all the punishment I gess its how long you want the paint to last, a good time with, or a little less long without. Happy Holidays Curt Re: Just paint?

Look for Single Stage paint Has clear in it No need for a clear coat
Then if you worry about weight why not just keep the blank raw graphite nothing on at all Just pollish it Bill - willierods.com Re: Just paint?

It really depends on the paint you use.
