Just paint?

Since paint itself is made to stand up to the elements, what advantage or disadvantage would I get if I painted a rod blank with appropriate paint and did NOT put any sort of top clear coat on it? Why would I want to add the extra weight of a clear coat?

A clear coat providing more protection and a better look than just paint on the surface are a couple of the reasons cited for their use on most vehicles today.

Its no different than having a car with or without'
without, the paint takes all the punishment. with, the clear
coat takes all the punishment
I gess its how long you want the paint to last, a good time with, or a little less long without.

Happy Holidays

Look for Single Stage paint Has clear in it No need for a clear coat

Then if you worry about weight why not just keep the blank raw graphite nothing on at all Just pollish it

It really depends on the paint you use.
