what glue or bonding agent do I use for a 50 year old bamboo fly rod repair?
it is a 3 part rod and the top section is separating. I'd rather be catching! Re: bamboo fly rod rebuild

Titebond III. Remove any wraps in the affected area. Spread the separated parts to make sure you have opened the entire damaged area, hold apart with pins , force the glue into the seams, remove the pins, wipe off the squeeze out and wrap tightly with coarse thread until dry. Remove the thread and scrape off the dried glue.Rewrap any removed intermediate and/or guide wraps with size A silk, and refinish as necessary with spar varnish.
While you're at it, check the rest of the rod for similar problems and for loose ferrules. Re: bamboo fly rod rebuild

Those old bamboo makers didn't have the quality or quantity of glues that we have today. The blank was probably glued up with hide glue, which was made from the hooves and hides of various animals. As put forth above, separate and clean, and do it a little deeper in to the separation than you might think necessary to prevent any further separation.
