Flex coat finish application chuck with clutch

I just finished up a build of a motor unit for a fellow rod builder to use one of the very excellent Flex Coat finish application chucks that uses an integrated slip clutch system on the unit.

After working with it for a bit, I understand the concept and the beauty and well made properties of this Chuck.

I am sure, as I found out, that any one who buys such a unit will be well pleased to use this chuck with a higher speed motor for applying finish to a rod in a very easy and quick fashion.

Really great product. Well worth the money.

Roger you are right on, it is an excelletnt product. It makes application of finish a breeze.

Another thing about it too, is your rod won't come out of it while curing which has been a frequently asked question on this forum.

Tom,
10-4.

I have made a bunch of similar chucks for use on my dryers and they work very well indeed. They are the basis for simplicity. Just a 59 cent pvc end cap and a piece of neoprene stretched across the end with a hole punched in the middle of the neoprene.

However, I will say that flex coat does have a better product, since their cups are molded with the bearing shaft hole in place and their rod holding membrane is pre shaped to fit the cup.

Great product at a reasonable price.

Roger,
If your setup doesn't have a 1/4" shaft, would the shaft on the slip clutch lock into a 3 jaw chuck?

Thanks, Bob

Bob
I use my flex coat slip clutch on an Alps 3 jaw chuck. Works great and has Never come loose while curing.

Bob,
Certainly. As long as the jaws will open to the size of the out side of the shaft, any chuck on a wrapper or drill will hold the flex coat shaft just fine.

That chuck has been on my wish list for a while now.
