New to the board and I have already learn some things. That said I have a question, we have a tournament guy that we are sponsoring for the up coming bass season, I built him a rod with microwave eyes on them and he likes them better than the regular micro eyes. The problem is finding a tip top that has a number 5 eye with the tip being a 7 on a flip stick. He has a Halo xxxh that has a number 3 eye on the tip. Is there anyone on here that can make me some tip tops or tell me the best way to make it myself. I am sure I am going to need more than one.
Thanks for your help, Warren T Page Suwannee Valley Rods Re: custom tip top

A microwave guide set has only one guide that is or has the two rings on it The butt guide
All the rest are regular guides with only one ring have no idea what you mean buy Microwave guides Are you making these up yourself ??? You need to explain [www.mudhole.com] Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/15/2014 09:55PM by bill boettcher. Re: custom tip top

Sorry I figured I wouldn't explain the question right The first time, so I will try it again. The MHXFS906 has a tip size of 7.5. All the running guides for the microwave casting is a number 5 eye. The smallest eye for a tip top that is a 7.5 is a size 8 eye. The customer wants the same number 5 eye on the tip top to match the running guides Hope that was a better description of my question Thanks Warren T Page Suwannee Valley Rods Re: custom tip top

The center pin guys have been using a regular single foot guide with a Forhan wraps for tips. You could try that Re: custom tip top

Use the same guide for the tip, as you do for the running guides.
Lots of folks do that when they want a matching tip for their runners. Re: custom tip top

Roger,
Is there away to put the running guide into a 7.5 tube to make it look professional. That's the biggest thing I am trying to find out. Or if someone on here can make them where they look like you would have bought it that way. Dick, I looked up that way and that would probably work I just want to look like a regular tip top with a tube but I may have to go that route. thanks for the input Warren T Page Suwannee Valley Rods Re: custom tip top

I just dealt with this myself, and ended up running 7's at the end and using the 8-7.0 tip. this does not look too bad.
I am not able to convince myself that using a single foot with a locking wrap at the tip would hold up very well on a heavy flipping rod. The guy is probably fishing 50 to 75 lb braid and trying to yank fish out of brush tops or thick grass.... that single foot is going to blow up! Re: custom tip top

That's what I told my customer I might have to do. But, he has a triple XH Halo rod with micro eyes that has a tip top on it. Now it does look like it was made but it look professional and that's why I was asking the question here because I doubt Halo would tell me how they did it Re: custom tip top

Warren;
I suggest you read this post [rodbuilding.org] and also the link contained in that post. And discuss this with your customer before deciding on the tip used. It will save him aggravation and you time in the future replacing tips Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/16/2014 09:25PM by Steve Gardner. Re: custom tip top
