Catfish Rod advice

I have a client who needs a rod for catfishing. I'm thinking a MHX flippin/piching XHeavy 8' blank.
Any suggestions. Her build budget is $140.00 total. It's a gift for her boyfriend.

Gifts for boyfriends and husbands are a difficult build. You don't know how he fishes, the reel he might use, how long to make the handle, and the list of what he likes in a rod goes on. Try to find out what he is fishing with now and if he likes it. Also what are his favorite colors, etc. etc.

The other option is to have the girlfriend give her guy a gift cert. for the rod. that way you can get all the measurements right. sometimes the girlfriends like the idea sometimes tehy just want to give something he can open. I've had it go both ways.

This way you can give her an idea of what it will cost and get all what he wants from him
