Getting ready to epoxy my 1st crosswrap, and as always have a couple of questions;
1) When putting epoxy on the threads of a "open crosswrap" such as the cheveron pattern, would one normaly protect the exposed portion of the blank or is it epoxied as well? 2) If the blank needs to be protected whats the best way to do it, masking tape? 3) How many coats would one normally apply, is there a suggested number or is it when one thinks the finish is as good as it's going to get? 4) Any othe suggestions/hints to get it done properly would be much appreciated? As always thanks for the help/advise. Geo Miller Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

The "exposed portion" is epoxied as well. Hi-build finishes would only require one or two applications. Color preserver should first be applied if the thread is regular nylon. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/06/2014 11:29PM by Ross W Pearson. Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

If you don't use CP on the thread a light finish will help to get any bubbles out and seal the thread Bill - willierods.com Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

Cp for me all the way. It gets even more important with more detailed cross wraps as it keeps them in place when applying finish and assures no bubble problems. I do mostly use high build though as I like the one and done aspect. By that time im usually "over" that rod. Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

In addition to what has already been answered above, I would recommend you read this article posted in the library section of the forum on applying epoxy.

I have begun to religiously use CP for all of my decorative wraps, especially some of the more complex cross wraps and multiple thread wraps. If you don't use it then where your threads overlap you'll get bleed through which drives me crazy. I do two coats of cp and two coats of high build finish and I havent had any issues with bubbles or an uneven surface on the dried finish. Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

I use CP on all wraps, including NCP. I never have a bubble problem. Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

Bubbles killed my last crosswrap experience, I've learned the importance of CP the hard way. Re: Another Crosswrap/Epoxy Question

Thanks to all. As the thread is NCP, was not going to use CP, but after all the info will definitely use now. I assume it is also applied to the expose blank area's, followed by epoxy.
As always thanks to all for the information and guidence. Regards Geo Miller Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
