finishing a spey rod and ran out of brown thread with only 2 furrels to wrap. the thread I was using was labeled "dark brown " and had 2 different # . one number was #521 and another was 396 . when I applied sealer the thread is a lighter brown. Bought some Prowrap in a 396 and when I applied sealer it turned too dark. the pro wrap was to be close to guidebrod 396 but is a chocolate and too dark. . should I omit the sealer or go for a lighter brown. A small "test" wrap saturated with water shows what regular nylon will look like with no color preserver after finish is applied. Re: thread color matching

If you have only the ferrules to wrap (all guides and other trim already done?) then I would consider using a white silk without CP, keeping the wraps as short as you are comfortable with, and they should disappear pretty well. Others with more experience with "clear" wraps, please chime in. I don't think the odds on matching thread colors is very good. Re: thread color matching

Hello Bill.
The #521 Means 100yd. Spool the 396 is Dark Brown, there should also be a letter A, B, D, or E denoting thread diameter the company name is Gudebrod. Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: thread color matching

I bought a thread which was to be a 396 but it was too brown when sealer was applied. ordered some guidebrod on line and hope it arrives soon so I can complete rod before leaving for Michigan on Saturday 10/11 Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
