Michael, I'm not sure what you are after. I've done a little EVA, and before turning it was just a block of EVA the length of the object I was trying to make. I've glued contrasting colors together, but even then, it was just a two colored block of EVA. Please clarify what you're looking for. I'm missing something. Re: eva before turning

Check out Billy Vivona's abstract eva grip glue ups. Billy has shared various photos and videos online. A web or YouTube search should provide a lot of photos and inspire some creative ideas. You can also check out the NERBS (North East RodBuilders group)
You can also look over woodturnning forums, the principles are the same for using contrasting wood glue ups as they are for eva grips. Another creative source are the custom pool cue builders. Their work tends to be more of a surface inlay, but again the concepts can be creatively applied to rod grip design and construction. Billy's inlaid designs that are cut and assembled flat then wrapped around a base is an example of modifying and applying these kinds of techniques. Just about anything you might turn on a lathe or or inlay into a cylindrical surface can serve as inspiration when creating eva grips. Edited 1 time(s). You don't have to use block eva to make custom grips I use colored round eva and get good results. You can see some of my work in photo gallery Re: eva before turning

Sometimes block EVA is better, other times round is. Depends on what you're doing. Lately I've been spiraling some EVA through a scroll saw. I couldn't do that very well with block EVA, so round is best for that particular purpose. Other times you need the squared surfaces to make accurate straight line cuts, etc.
