Hello,
I am putting feather inlays on the female ferrules on my 4pc fly rod but I have a few bumps on my first coat of finish. So I decided to trim those bumps with a blade and now I'm left with a few white spots. My question is can I go ahead and put my feather inlay on with color preserver before filling in those white spot with another coat of finish? Or will the color preserver preserve those white spots and not allow the finish to soak back in there? I don't want to have ferrules with spots on there! But I also hate waiting for the finish to dry up before doing my inlays! :S Re: Finish and color preserver question

Test it! Put a little color preserver on a spot and see what happens. Re: Finish and color preserver question

I think what you'll have to do is lightly scuff the entire wrap with Scotchbrite or very fine sandpaper. When you shave a larger nub off with a razor blade it tends to stretch the material and causes a difference in how that surface then refracts light, or something.
Also keep in mind that if your feathers are going to cover those spots, they won't be an issue. .................. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
